MARC HAS HIS WINGS!

Yesterday was the all-day winging event. In the morning, Marc, his mother (Lori), and I went on base for a breakfast at which the commander of Marc's squadron spoke about the base and the plane Marc has just completed flying. But, before the breakfast, we snuck a seat in the T-44 plane that was on display. Marc had fun describing all the details and answering our many questions. We also found a picture on the wall of the AC-130 that Marc will be flying.

We were released for lunch and Marc had signed us up for a Simulator opportunity. Marc's mom and I climbed into the movable mechanism and did a "smashing" job of flying the plane. LOL Marc killed an engine on us and we crashed.

Following lunch, the winging ceremony began. A Commodore in the Navy spoke about the hard work done by all of the students and the great support by the families and friends of the students. There was a spouse's presentation where they gave me a "thank you" certificate for supporting Marc. Then Marc went up, received his wings, I pinned them on, and he received his Certificate of Aeronautical Rating...means he's DONE WITH PILOT TRAINING!!!

Summer fun!

Marc and I have gone on a few trips within the past month. We went tubing (or "toobing" as they spell it) in New Braunfels and had lunch on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.
Then, this past weekend, we attended a concert performed by Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Leann Rimes, Gary Allen, and Luke Bryan!!

We had a blast!!

Baby News!

Marc and I are going to be an uncle and aunt, thanks to Jen and PJ. I swiped this off of Jen's website...
He/She is going to make an appearance around March 6th, 2009. So we are already conniving about how we'll spoil the sweet thing :) We are very excited for them and are looking forward to March!

AC-130 to Cannon AFB, Clovis, NM

Marc found out today! We're headed to Clovis, New Mexico at Cannon Air Force Base very close to the border with Texas panhandle. Marc was ranked 3rd out of 17 people...WOW!! So he was really able to pick what he wanted! This choice is actually #2 on the list posted yesterday only because #1 was not needed by the Air Force and therefore not offered to his class. He was able to choose the only AC-130 offered because he was ranked so high :) He will be joining the squadron that will be moving from Florida to New Mexico. There are a few steps we take between now and when we'll actually go to Clovis, such as Marc's survival training in Washington State, our 2nd Wedding reception, possibly initially going to Hurlburt Field in Florida (which is where Marc's squadron is moving from), but eventually we will be stationed at Cannon AFB for the next 3-4 years. Clovis is really in the middle of nowhere. It's about 2 hours from Santa Fe, NM, Albequerque, NM, Abilene, TX, and Lubbock, TX. So, we'll drive to find fun. :)

Marc will be flying the AC-130 which stands for Attack C-130. I'm actually comforted by this because these planes are heavily armored, can go very far undetected, and loaded with weapons. They go to the war zone, stay very high above the fighting, and aim their weapons and then get the heck out of there. He will be safe...and flying his dream plane!

I will be searching for a speech pathology job in Clovis or Portales, New Mexico. Marc and I have already searched and found a few places at which I could work as a speech pathologist. We'll see where this move takes me in my profession.

Although this move is further away from both of our families, ultimately, we are excited to be going to Cannon because Marc will be flying the plane he was hoping to fly! We are also looking forward to a more permanent station than what we are currently experiencing!

Next step: Marc's winging on Aug. 22. We'll make sure to post pictures :)

Drop day is tomorrow!

Marc and I find out about our next station (after a brief stay in Little Rock) tomorrow! It's going to be exciting :) We provided the Air Force with a "preferred" list after we were given a massive list to choose from. And Marc can always choose something that he did not put on the list as long as the Air Force has a need for that slot. So here's the preferred list...

1. New York - HC-130
2. Florida - AC-130
3. Abilene, Texas - C-130
4. North Carolina - C-130
5. Germany - C-130 J
6. England - MC-130

Update coming soon...
