AC-130 to Cannon AFB, Clovis, NM
Marc found out today! We're headed to Clovis, New Mexico at Cannon Air Force Base very close to the border with Texas panhandle. Marc was ranked 3rd out of 17 people...WOW!! So he was really able to pick what he wanted! This choice is actually #2 on the list posted yesterday only because #1 was not needed by the Air Force and therefore not offered to his class. He was able to choose the only AC-130 offered because he was ranked so high :) He will be joining the squadron that will be moving from Florida to New Mexico. There are a few steps we take between now and when we'll actually go to Clovis, such as Marc's survival training in Washington State, our 2nd Wedding reception, possibly initially going to Hurlburt Field in Florida (which is where Marc's squadron is moving from), but eventually we will be stationed at Cannon AFB for the next 3-4 years. Clovis is really in the middle of nowhere. It's about 2 hours from Santa Fe, NM, Albequerque, NM, Abilene, TX, and Lubbock, TX. So, we'll drive to find fun. :)
Marc will be flying the AC-130 which stands for Attack C-130. I'm actually comforted by this because these planes are heavily armored, can go very far undetected, and loaded with weapons. They go to the war zone, stay very high above the fighting, and aim their weapons and then get the heck out of there. He will be safe...and flying his dream plane!
I will be searching for a speech pathology job in Clovis or Portales, New Mexico. Marc and I have already searched and found a few places at which I could work as a speech pathologist. We'll see where this move takes me in my profession.
Although this move is further away from both of our families, ultimately, we are excited to be going to Cannon because Marc will be flying the plane he was hoping to fly! We are also looking forward to a more permanent station than what we are currently experiencing!
Next step: Marc's winging on Aug. 22. We'll make sure to post pictures :)
